Simkin also worked with filmmaker Bill Douglas on the film Comrades and set up the Phantasmagoria Display in 1979 as part of his teaching and pedagogic studies. He views himself as a custodian of a collection, responsible for its care, conservation, and function, and is now auctioning his collection, leaving him with a sense of "not belonging" as his performances and research are now only memories.
