Summary

Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nun Tanzimat sonrası ceza sistemi ve hapishane mimarisi dönüşümünü ele alan bir çalışmadır. 1851 Kanun-ı Cedid ve 1858 Ceza Kanunname-i Hûmayûnu ile Osmanlı bürokrasisi, Ortaçağ ceza sisteminden radikal bir kopuş yaşamış ve zaman-mekana hapsetme sistemine geçiş arzusundadır. İngiliz devlet adamlarının desteği ile hazırlanan raporlar, mevcut hapishanelerin durumlarına ve reform önerilerine odaklanmıştır. Ankara'da inşa edilecek hapishane binası için üç farklı proje ele alınmakta ve inşa süreçleri ile mimari karakteri irdelenmektedir. Çalışma, Osmanlı hapishaneleri, Ankara hapishaneleri, Osmanlı mimarlığı ve ceza hukuku gibi konularda bilgi sağlamaktadır.
