Summary

En la parroquia de Caranqui, Imbabura, existen los vestigios de la sede administrativa incaica; una parte denominada “espacio ceremonial o baño del Inka” fue descubierta en el 2006. Este sitio incaico probablemente represente el último esfuerzo arquitectónico a gran escala emprendido por el estado imperial, relacionado con el nacimiento o el casamiento de Atahualpa. El estudio cooperativo reunió a expertos en arqueología, etnohistoria y arquitectura precolombina para investigar la naturaleza y filiación del sitio y las estrategias empleadas por el estado durante la fase "final" del imperio incaico. Utilizando técnicas de detección a distancia, excavaciones arqueológicas, estudios geológicos y geoquímicos, investigación de archivo y análisis arquitectónico detallado, el equipo busca aclarar la historia, función y significado del sitio Inca-Caranqui.
