Pietro Ameglio is a key organizer in the Mexican Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity, which emerged in 2011 in response to the spiraling toll of dead and disappeared in the "war on drugs". The movement has made visible the victims of violence and granted dignity to their family members struggling for justice, highlighting the astonishing scale of the violence, with over 100,000 dead and 32,000 disappeared. Ameglio is one of the most important teachers and practitioners of active nonviolence in Latin America, and has strategized with the MPJD to organize events such as the "Silent Walk" and the "Caravan of Consolation". He co-founded the Mexican Peace and Justice Service, Thinking Out Loud, and the Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity, and has authored the book "Gandhi and Civil Disobedience: Mexico Today". Ameglio received the El Hibri Peace Education Prize in 2014 and holds two Special Chairs in Peace Culture and Nonviolent Civil Resistance at the National Autonomous University in Mexico City.
