Summary

La ville haute d'Ardes était fortifiée avant 1910, puis un viaduc et une nouvelle route furent construits. Deux châteaux furent édifiés, l'un sur une colline, surnommé "le doigt de Mercœur", et l'autre sur un éperon rocheux au nord de la ville. Aujourd'hui, seule la base de la tour du "palais d'Ardes" subsiste, transformée en chapelle funéraire privée au 19e siècle. La place Croisière abrite deux monuments à la mémoire des morts pour la France pendant les guerres mondiales, ainsi que le marché aux moutons où l'on trouvait la race locale "Blanc d'Ardes". La faune locale comprend des espèces telles que l'hermine, l'orchis bouffon et le martin pêcheur.
