The Regulative Principle of Worship (RPW) is the application of "Sola Scriptura" to worship, stating that God must be worshiped in the manner He has prescribed. The Heidelberg Catechism explains it as "that we in no wise make any image of God, nor worship Him in any other way than He has commanded." The RPW is supported by Scripture, including Deuteronomy 12:32, which says "What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it." The principle is also found in the Old Testament, where worship was restricted to the Tabernacle or Temple, and is still relevant today, with Jesus as our great High Priest making intercession for us in the heavenly sanctuary.
