Hälleviksbor räddade i sista stund ett komplement till artikeln i Sölvesborgs-Tidningen den 10 februari 1956 om skildring av de nödställda på ett drivande isflak i viken utanför Hällevik. En person som satt i sin minkgård och spikade minkburar såg flera personer ute på isen i vikens östra del och insåg att isen kunde gå upp med den ostliga vinden. Han sprang ner till Strandvägen och varnade andra, och tillsammans lyckades de rädda de nödställda med båtar. De tog ombord fem eller sex personer i den första båten och resten i den andra båten. Om de hade kommit fem till tio minuter senare, hade samtliga omkommit i det nollgradiga vattnet. Räddningen var helt improviserad och utfördes med enkla medel, men med ett lyckat resultat.
