Summary

Shamanism is a body of wisdom and knowledge about the workings of heaven and earth, describing indigenous groups where roles like healer, religious leader, and counselor are combined, with principles that everything is sacred, made of light, and all healing is done by Spirit. A shaman is an ancient term for a healer and medicine person who conveys beauty and health, heals the sick, communicates with spirits, and controls events, literally "one who knows." Shamanism emerged over 50,000 years ago, integrating ancient wisdom with modern science, and expands consciousness, allowing individuals to become medicine people of service to all. Shamans understand the energetic nature of reality, dream their world into being, and participate in creation and stewardship, connected to a lineage of medicine people from the past and future. Principles of a shaman include living in a constant state of yes, led by Spirit, and following principles like ayni (right relationship), munay (unconditional love), yachay (wisdom), llankay (right livelihood), and kawsay (life energy).
