Summary

Мотыгино расположено на Средне-Сибирском плоско­горье, на правом высоком берегу реки Ангары, и тянется вдоль реки. Посёлок является центром Мотыгинского района. Основание Мотыгино датируется 1670-ми годами, предположительно основано Иваном Мотыгой. Жители занимались рыбной ловлей, охотой и земледелием. В 1929 году образовалась сельхозартель "Ангарский повстанец". В настоящее время в Мотыгино имеются общеобразовательные школы, коррекционная школа, детская музыкальная школа, центр подростковой внешкольной работы, муниципальный театр, краеведческий музей и другие учреждения.
