The University of Massachusetts Boston and its unions (Classified Staff Union, Department Chairs Union, Faculty Staff Union, Graduate Employees Organization, and Professional Staff Union) have agreed on proposals to address the COVID-19 pandemic. The agreements include:
1. Guaranteeing employment for all current employees with no changes to compensation.
2. Allowing high-risk employees to work from home or self-quarantine without penalty.
3. Providing essential personnel with free parking, transportation, PPE, and a safe work environment.
4. Implementing rotating schedules for on-campus employees.
5. Notifying unions of essential personnel designations and allowing employees to appeal.
6. Providing equipment and services for remote work and supporting work-life balance.
7. Not creating new performance assessment tools and reducing workloads.
8. Requiring employees to self-quarantine under certain circumstances.
9. Allowing self-quarantined employees to remain on payroll with full benefits.
10. Not requiring medical documentation for self-quarantine.
11. Covering costs incurred due to University decisions.
12. Ceasing parking pass deductions and honoring requests to cancel MBTA/Commuter Rail pass deductions.
13. Not requiring non-essential employees to work remotely if the campus is closed.
14. Holding thrice-weekly briefings with union updates on COVID-19 cases among employees.
