Summary

Abel Sibanda, a 31-year-old herdboy, was charged with murder after the death of a 29-year-old pregnant woman, who was the wife of his employer, Musa Ndoba Moyo. The two had left the homestead to collect firewood, but the woman was found dead with a deep cut on the back of her head. Sibanda was later arrested in Hwange National Park. The court heard evidence from several witnesses, including Moyo, who stated that his wife had not wanted to accompany Sibanda, but had eventually agreed to go after Moyo offered to go instead. The court also heard from Mathew Moyo, who had been asked to follow the pair and found the woman's body. Sibanda's defense was that the woman's death was an accident, but the court found his explanation to be inconsistent and suspicious. The court ultimately found Sibanda guilty of murder with actual intent.
