Will Of Hugh Clark.pdf

Hugh Clark, a mason from Lyddington, wrote his last will and testament on May 24, 1802. He left his estates to his wife, Elizabeth, for her lifetime, and then to his sons: Robert, James, and Hugh. The will includes the following bequests:

To his wife, Elizabeth: all his messuage or tenement, copyhold messuage, and cottage house with appurtenances for her lifetime.
To his eldest son, Robert: his freehold messuage or tenement, charged with the payment of £5.
To his second son, James: his copyhold messuage or tenement with bakehouse and appurtenances, charged with the payment of £15.
To his youngest son, Hugh: his cottage house with allotment of land and appurtenances, charged with the payment of £70.
To his son, John: £10, to be paid three months after his wife's death.
To his daughters, Elizabeth and Mary: £10, to be divided equally between them, to be paid three months after his wife's death.
To his daughter, Eleanor: £50, to be paid three months after his wife's death, and his household furniture after his wife's death.
To his executors, James and John Clark: £20, to pay his debts, funeral expenses, and the charges of proving his will, with any surplus to be divided among his children.

The will was proved on February 7, 1803, with James Clark being sworn in as one of the executors. The document was transcribed by Brian Stokes in 2011 and checked by Rosemary Canadine in 2012.
