Amnesty International USA Group 11 held its 47th Annual Benefit Concert on December 11, 2022, at Christ & St. Stephen’s Church in NYC. The concert featured performances by Mary Barto (flute), Marcia Eckert (piano), Oren Fader (guitar), Herdís Guðmundsdóttir (violin), Liam Kaplan (piano), and Sara Paar (soprano). The program included works by Henry Purcell, Louise Talma, Maurice Ravel, Jacques Ibert, Astor Piazzolla, Gabriel Fauré, and others. The performers have impressive backgrounds, with Mary Barto being a former member of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Marcia Eckert being a renowned pianist and teacher, Oren Fader being a champion of contemporary music, Herdís Guðmundsdóttir being a Master of Music student at Yale, Liam Kaplan being a pianist and composer, and Sara Paar being an acclaimed soprano. The concert included a range of pieces, from classical to contemporary, and featured texts and translations from various authors, including Thomas Betterton, John Dryden, and Emily Dickinson.
