Summary

Der Erzähler schwimmt im Meer vor Rom, wo er gegen die Wellen ankämpfen muss, die durch den Scirocco-Wind aufgewühlt werden. Nach einer Stunde Schwimmen kehrt er an den Strand zurück, wo er sich in den Sand setzt und feststellt, dass er einen Sonnenbrand hat. Seine Frau Antonia hatte ihn gewarnt, sich gut einzuschmieren, da er ein "hellhäutiger Typ" sei. Der Erzähler erhält einen Anruf von Antonia, die mit den Kindern bei Verwandten in Bayern ist, und sie unterhalten sich über das Wetter und den Sonnenbrand. Der Erzähler geht dann zu einer Bar am Strand und bestellt ein Bier, wobei die Bedienung feststellt, dass er Deutscher ist, und sogar aus Bayern kommt, weil er "genauso Italienisch spricht wie il Santo Padre", also Papst Benedikt XVI.
