Summary

Udo Mathee lotet mit seinen Werken den "Wert" des Menschen aus, mit all seinen Wunden und Verletzungen. Seine Skulpturen finden insbesondere bei Seelsorgern und Ärzten Anklang. Mathee schaffe seine Werke nicht aus einer therapeutischen oder pädagogischen Absicht heraus, aber dennoch seien seine Themen immer dem Leben abgerungen und sprächen somit das Existenzielle im Menschen an. Seine Holzskulpturen beschäftigen sich zumeist mit Wunden und Verletzungen und stellen diese in einen neuen Kontext. Mathee selbst hat Risse im Leben erfahren, die sich für ihn letztendlich als "heilsam" erwiesen haben. Er arbeitet seit 1995 als freischaffender Bildhauer und nebenher auch als Fach- und Wissenschaftsjournalist. Sein künstlerisches Schaffen stößt dabei nicht nur in Deutschland, sondern auch in anderen europäischen Staaten auf Interesse.
