Wendy Prellwitz, a painter, works in the studios of her great-grandparents, Henry and Edith Mitchill Prellwitz, in Peconic, Long Island, and feels inspired by them. Henry, born in 1865, was a son of Prussian immigrants and studied at the Art Students League of New York and the Académie Julian in Paris. Edith, born in 1864, was from a wealthy family and also studied at the Art Students League and the Académie Julian. They met in Manhattan, married in 1894, and built a life together in Peconic, where they painted and socialized with other artists. Wendy continues their legacy, painting outdoors in Peconic and capturing the area's shifting landscapes and light.
