Scope: Applies to all CBE students aged 18 and older, and all employees who must be aware of its terms.

Principles:

All community members share responsibility for creating a welcoming, caring, respectful, and safe learning environment.
Everyone has the right to learn and work free from discrimination, harassment, bullying, and harm.
Schools will use a proactive, preventative, and restorative approach to discipline (refer AR 6006).
Responses to negative behavior should be fair, predictable, and consistently applied across the school.

Definitions:

Bullying: Repeated and hostile/demeaning behavior intended to cause harm, fear, or distress. Includes physical, verbal, social, and cyber forms.
Discrimination: Unfair treatment based on characteristics like race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, etc.
Diversity: The range of human uniqueness, including cultural, linguistic, family composition, language, physical attributes, and socio-economic status.
Expulsion: Removal from school for more than 10 instructional days.
Harassment: Any behavior that disparages, humiliates, or harms another person and denies their dignity and respect.
Suspension: Removal from school for up to 10 instructional days or less.

Regulation Statement:

The CBE is committed to a safe, respectful learning environment. Students are responsible for:

Respecting the rights and dignity of others in all circumstances (on and off campus, during school activities, travel, and electronic communication).
Exhibiting socially responsible and respectful behaviors.
Complying with the Alberta Human Rights Act and Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Student Responsibilities:

Students are expected to:

Demonstrate respect for self, others, and the school environment.
Model positive social behaviors.
Be courteous, use inclusive language, and demonstrate good digital citizenship.
Take responsibility for their belongings and respect others'.

Unacceptable Behavior:

Engaging in conduct that disrupts the learning environment or impacts school safety may result in discipline up to and including suspension or expulsion. Examples include:

Disruptive or dangerous behavior, defiance of authority.
Encouraging unacceptable conduct, endangering others.
Injurious behavior to others' physical, social, or mental well-being.
Improper language, gestures, or distribution of obscene material.
Discriminatory behavior.
Improper use of technology.
