Summary

The Third Annual Songwriting Contest will take place on August 22, 2020, at the Turner Center Art Park in Valdosta, Georgia. The contest aims to encourage songs about the Suwannee River and its tributaries, as well as the Okefenokee Swamp and other waterways in south Georgia and north Florida. The event will feature headliners Dirty Bird and the Flu, as well as finalists competing for prizes. Judges will evaluate the songs based on originality, lyrics, music, performance, and clarity of message, with extra credit given for naming multiple rivers. Prizes include $300 for the first prize winner, $50 for winners from within and outside the Suwannee River Basin, and one plaque per musical genre. Youth winners under 18 years old will also receive prizes. Tickets are available for $10 in advance and $12 at the door, with a VIP table option available for $150. The event will also feature a silent auction, kayak raffle, food truck, and cash bar. The contest is organized by WWALS Watershed Coalition, Inc., a nonprofit charity that advocates for conservation and stewardship of the region's waterways.
