Acalanes High School Jazz Combo won top honors at the Monterey Jazz Festival's NeXT Generation Youth Jazz Combo competition, considered one of the most important youth jazz competitions in the world. Ellie Athayde was named Musician of the Year. The combo features Parker Grant, Ben Ebert, Maxime Stinnett, Gurbir Dhillon, and Ellie Athayde.

Nicholas Colby Gilbert, a four-year-old boy from Lafayette, was diagnosed with Leukemia and passed away in 2006. He received a "Bag of Fun" from the Gabby Krause Foundation, which inspired his parents to create the Nicholas Colby Fund (NCF) backpack for young patients with cancer or life-threatening illnesses. The NCF partnered with Samsonite to develop the backpack, filled with 10-15 items to lift patients' spirits.

The Lafayette community is hosting events, including the Earth Day Festival and "Aging in Place in Lafayette," focusing on seniors and environmental preservation. The festival features the Acalanes Jazz Band, educational tables, and a scavenger hunt.
