Friends of Whirlow Brook Park (FOWP) issued their third newsletter in August 2021, highlighting recent volunteer sessions, including 19 people on August 16, who cleared debris and weeds from the young children's play area. Two large conifers at the sunken garden entrance will be removed due to their size and the damage they are causing, and the Soroptimists International Association's Hallamshire branch will support new tree planting in the area. The group is seeking more volunteers to lead sessions and is hosting an Extraordinary General Meeting on September 28 to elect a management committee and discuss progress. The meeting will also include a talk on flood prevention work in the Limb Valley. The group's website is now live, and upcoming volunteer days are scheduled for September, October, and November, focusing on tasks such as flower beds, kid's play area, and pond edge clearing. A fridge freezer is needed for the gardeners' store, and donations or leads are appreciated. The group also hosted a Music in the Park event and learned about forestry work to combat larch disease in the area. Dore Moor Garden Centre donated plants to the group, which are being fostered by volunteers until they can be planted in the park.
