Summary

Exclusion Keycard Blackwood (EKB) is a convention used to ask for keycards outside of a void suit, typically after a major suit agreement. It's a jump over game in an unbid suit or a suit bid by the opponents, and partner doesn't count the ace of the jump suit in their response. The most common responses are 0314: 0 or 3 keycards, 1 or 4, 2 without the trump queen, and 2 with the trump queen. After the keycard response, the cheapest bid other than five of the trump suit asks for the trump queen, and the next cheapest bid seeks specific kings. EKB is useful for handling slam hands with void suits, as using regular Blackwood can be problematic. Partnerships must discuss and agree on which bids are EKB to avoid misunderstandings.
