Paul prophesied that in the last days, humility would be a rare gem, as people would be proud, arrogant, and contemptuous boastful, inflated with self-conceit. Examples of the opposite of humility are seen in leaders, the wealthy, and even in religion, where some individuals think they are indispensable. The word "humble" is defined as having a feeling of being unimportant, weak, or poor, and being modest in spirit, not proud, and deeply respectful. Examples of humility include Job, who after being brought low, uttered words of repentance and humility, and Moses, who exhibited humility when called by God to lead Israel out of Egypt. Other examples include Isaiah, Jeremiah, Paul, and John the Baptist, who all remained humble despite their successes. Humility is also teachable, and those who possess it are able to accept and seek counsel from others, acknowledging that they are not the sum total of all wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.
