God's plan is to have holy, righteous sons and daughters, but sin disqualified humanity from His family. Through Jesus' death and resurrection, sinners can be reconciled to God and become sons and daughters of God through faith. Jesus shows what family members look like by living as a man dependent on God, and He is the pattern for God's family, a Father pleaser. Jesus' life and Spirit in believers restore their being to what God intended, making them sons and daughters who are fully pleasing to Him. However, even as sons and daughters of God, believers may not always please Him in every thought, word, attitude, and action. Jesus came to give eternal life, the life of God, which is imparted to believers when they believe in Him. This life transforms their spirit, making them a new creation, but their mind, emotions, and body must be progressively brought under the control of the Spirit of God. The new birth is the beginning of a transformation process that will ultimately restore every part of their being to what they were intended to be, holy, righteous sons and daughters.
