MI outperformed traditional advice giving in 80% of 72 studies, with providers who effectively dealt with resistance having 5x higher adherence rates. Change is a process that occurs in stages: Pre-Contemplation, Contemplation, Preparation, Action, Relapse/Recurrence, and Maintenance.
