Paul wrote about God's abundant grace in Romans 5, which meets our need for forgiveness and release from condemnation, and also reigns through righteousness into eternal life. In Romans 6, Paul shows what is already ours because our lives are joined to Jesus Christ, including being dead to sin and alive to God. He uses baptism as a picture of death, burial, and resurrection, emphasizing that we have died to sin and been raised to life through being joined to Jesus. This truth sets us free, and Paul encourages us to know and count on it, so that we can move forward in God's purposes, living as those who are dead to sin and alive to God.
