Summary

The 2017 Chaplains have prepared daily devotions to support summer staff, volunteers, and families. Each day's devotion is written by a different chaplain: Elsa Hurtado (Sunday), Carson Tucker (Monday), Judy Ritts (Tuesday), Doug Wood (Wednesday), Barb Kelley (Thursday), Gary Ritts (Friday), and Tim Bomgardner (Saturday).

Sunday: Trust in the Lord
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. Serving others is a great experience, and most of the time, we end up receiving more love than we could offer. Reflect on why you are doing ASP and what your motivation is.

Monday: Sincere Love
God calls for our love to be real and sincere. Sincere love requires effort, demands our time and resources, and makes people better. Look for people who need your love and look for ways to share it.

Tuesday: Being Curious
Unleash your curiosity and be open to the experiences of the day. Reflect on the moments when you were truly intentionally curious and present to God's presence. Awe prompts us to think in more transcendent ways, shifting our focus from inward concern to an outward sense of universality and connectedness.

Wednesday: Compassion
Focus on the concept of compassion in your ASP life. Compassion means stepping beyond a feeling for the people we see who are struggling to find ways to understand and ease the hurting. Look around and find someone who could use your smile, assistance, or time.

Key Verses:

1 John 3:18: "Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with action and in truth."
Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."
Romans 12:9-13: "Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves."
Matthew 7:7: "Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
