The Fleetweld 5P+ electrode is a mild steel, cellulosic electrode for stick (SMAW) welding, suitable for all welding positions, with typical applications including cross-country and in-plant pipe welding, welding on steel with moderate surface contaminants, and repair welding. It has a high operator appeal and control, easy slag removal, and is standard in the pipe welding industry. The electrode conforms to various standards, including AWS A5.1/A5.1M: 2004, ASME SFA-A5.1, ABS, CWB/CSA W48-06, and TUV. It is available in different diameters and packaging, including 10 lb, 30 lb, and 50 lb easy open cans and master cartons. The mechanical properties of the electrode include a yield strength of 330 MPa (48 ksi) min., tensile strength of 430 MPa (60 ksi) min., elongation of 22% min., and Charpy V-Notch of 27 J (20 ft•lbf) min. The deposit composition includes %C, %Mn, %Si, %P, and %S, with typical results ranging from 0.09-0.20, 0.46-0.79, 0.10-0.32, 0.005-0.017, and 0.004-0.014, respectively. Typical operating procedures include current ranges of 50-85, 75-135, 100-175, and 140-225 amps, with preferred polarity of DC+.
