Summary

A new adaptive clamping fixture has been developed for precision machining of unstable, thin-walled parts with free-form surfaces, such as jet turbine engine and aerstructure components. The fixture features modules with axial moveable pins, guided and hydraulically locked by KOSTYRKA clamping sleeves, allowing for fast and precise adaptation to the part's geometry. The pins can be moved at different times to avoid lift or displacement forces, and the fixture includes a centering device and a levelling device to ensure accurate positioning. The setup time is reduced from hours or days to minutes, and the fixture can be used for both internal and external clamping. The same technology has been applied to other applications, such as a 10-ton convex mirror blank for the European Extremely Large Telescope, demonstrating the flexibility and precision of the adaptive clamping system.
