A survey of 1,000 people who visit conveyor belt sushi restaurants at least once a month found that:
- 77.9% prefer affordable, uniform-priced restaurants
- 61.1% order sushi, while 21.4% take what's on the conveyor belt
- The average number of plates eaten is 9.9, with men eating 11.2 plates and women eating 8.7 plates
- The most popular first piece of sushi is salmon (22.2%), followed by maguro (12.9%) and hamachi/buri (6.3%)
- The most popular last piece of sushi is also salmon (10.7%), followed by tamago (8.0%) and maguro (4.9%)
- 68.0% of respondents think conveyor belt sushi is suitable for dates, while 80.5% think it's okay to eat alone
- The top information sources for choosing a conveyor belt sushi restaurant are introductions/recommendations (30.0%) and TV programs/advertisements (26.1%)
- 79.3% of respondents think Hokkaido has the most delicious local conveyor belt sushi
- 74.6% of respondents dislike it when their partner takes a plate and then returns it on a date at a conveyor belt sushi restaurant.
