The Joint Ocean Ice Study (JOIS) 2006 was conducted aboard the CCGS Louis S. St-Laurent from July 20 to October 2, 2006, involving collaborations with Japan, the US, and other international partners. The study aimed to understand the impacts of global change on the physical environment and biological responses in the Arctic, with a focus on climate variability, sea ice, and freshwater components. The cruise consisted of four legs, covering areas from Dartmouth to Resolute, Resolute to Kugluktuk, the southern Canada Basin, and northern Baffin Bay. Research activities included CTD/Rosette system deployments, XCTD casts, zooplankton net tows, and mooring operations, with some technical issues and delays encountered during the cruise. The study also involved ice observations, seismic programs, and wildlife observations, with a focus on understanding the interconnectivity between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans through the Canadian Arctic Archipelago.
