Summary

The effect of different doses of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) on germ cell count and androgenic status in immature mice was investigated. Eighteen mice were divided into three experimental groups and received 5, 10, or 50 IU of hCG subcutaneously on days 15 and 25 of age. Six mice served as controls. Serum testosterone levels were measured on days 28 and 65 of age. DNA flow cytometry was performed on a biopsy sample from each mouse on day 65. The results showed that testosterone levels increased with increasing doses of hCG on day 28, with the highest level observed in the 50 IU group. However, on day 65, testosterone levels decreased in the groups that received higher doses of hCG, with no significant difference between the control and experimental groups. The 50 IU group showed a significant decrease in haploid cell count compared to the other groups. The study suggests that continuous stimulation of Leydig cells by hCG is necessary for testosterone production in immature mice, and that high doses of hCG can lead to a decrease in testosterone levels and haploid cell count.
