Summary

Researchers designed an acoustofluidic-based stool liquefaction device with a stool homogenization region featuring two parallel channels and a stool filtration region with a 100 µm gap between microstructures. The device was tested on watery human stool samples, and results showed reliable viability evaluation of bacteria using a Matlab program, with a mismatch of only 3.5% compared to manual counting. The device was compared to a standard method, and viability results were calculated using a fluorescence microscope image and a Matlab counting program, showing average viability of 39.2% and 39.1% for the standard and acoustofluidics methods, respectively.
