Summary

The growth and detachment dynamics of attached algae in the middle reach of the Yahagi River were analyzed using a population dynamic model. Field observations were conducted from July 2002 to January 2003, and the results showed that the attached algae biomass increased from late September to late November, with two peaks in mid-November and early January. The model incorporated the effects of light, temperature, and nutrient uptake on algae growth, as well as the impact of flow and sediment transport on detachment. The results suggested that the model was able to capture the characteristics of algae growth in the Yahagi River, but further refinement is needed to improve its accuracy.
