A study on Alopecurus pratensis L. biotypes collected from Banat, Romania, analyzed their morphological characters, including shoot plant number, leaf plant number, plant height, and dry matter. The goal was to classify these biotypes based on their quantitative characters and emphasize correlations between them.

The research found similarities between certain biotypes: Alpha and Sinersig, Topolovatu Mare, Buzias, Albina, and Lugoj, as well as between Remetea Mare and Traian Vuia. Statistical analysis using STATISTICA 8 revealed strong positive correlations between variables such as shrub weight, shoot number, and number of green leaves.

Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was performed, showing that the first two factors explained approximately 88.29% of the cumulative variance. The first component was a linear combination of the variables, indicating negative correlations with shrub weight, leaf number, and shoot number, and a positive correlation with dry matter. The second component showed a different correlation pattern.

The study's results provide insights into the classification and characteristics of Alopecurus pratensis L. biotypes, which can be useful for genetic and amelioration research, as well as for improving fodder production in sustainable agriculture. Key findings include the identification of biotype similarities and the correlation patterns between morphological characters, which can inform strategies for optimizing fodder crop production.
