Summary

The study compares two simplification methods, Bend and Douglas-Peucker, for shoreline extraction from digital orthophoto images. The Object-oriented Simple Linear Clustering (SLIC) method was used to extract the shoreline of Riga Bay, Latvia. The extracted shoreline was then simplified using both methods and compared to a reference shoreline digitized photogrammetrically. The results showed that the Bend method produced a shoreline closer to the original extracted shoreline. The study highlights the importance of accurate shoreline information for coastal management and the potential of remote sensing and image processing techniques in obtaining reliable shoreline data.
