Summary

The study investigates the impact of lake water environmental conditions on bioavailable-phosphorus (BAP) in surface sediments of five lakes in the Lixia River basin, China. BAP fractions, including algae available P (AAP) and Olsen-P, were measured in the top 0-5 cm of surface sediments during three seasons. The results show that BAP concentrations vary significantly between seasons, with high temperatures, bacterial activity, and low dissolved oxygen levels in summer contributing to increased BAP release and eutrophication. Factor analysis identified chemical oxygen demand, bacterial activity, and macrophyte roots as key factors influencing BAP fractions. The study highlights the importance of considering environmental conditions in the water column when evaluating BAP in surface sediments and its potential impact on lake eutrophication.
