Summary

The influence of N-2-(aminoethyl)-3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane on the physicochemical and morphological properties of silicas obtained in an emulsion system was studied. The silicas were synthesized through a precipitation reaction from an aqueous solution of sodium metasilicate using hydrochloric acid. The addition of N-2-(aminoethyl)-3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane resulted in significant changes to the surface character and morphology of the silica particles, including reduced surface silanol groups, increased hydrophobicity, and increased particle homogeneity. The modified silicas exhibited high reactivity, particularly with organic dyes and thermoplastic polyolefines, due to the presence of =NH and –NH2 groups on their surface. The physicochemical properties of the silicas were evaluated using techniques such as dynamic light scattering, scanning electron microscopy, FTIR spectroscopy, and XPS. The results showed that the aminosilane modification led to a decrease in polydispersity and an increase in specific surface area, as well as changes in the zeta potential and isoelectric point of the silica particles.
