Summary

BL04B1 is an experimental station for studying material changes under high temperature and high pressure, and the internal structure of the Earth, using high-energy white X-rays and monochromatic X-rays for X-ray diffraction and radiography measurements. The station is equipped with two large high-pressure generation devices, SPEED-1500 and SPEED-Mk.Ⅱ, which use six anvils to compress a cubic sample space. In 2010, a D-DIA type deformation device was introduced to SPEED-Mk.Ⅱ, allowing for the creation of a deviatoric stress field and enabling research on the rheology of high-pressure minerals and rock destruction.

In 2012, a short-cycle deformation oil pressure system and an expanded optical system were introduced to take full advantage of the D-DIA type deformation device. The short-cycle deformation oil pressure system enables the measurement of solid internal friction at frequencies of up to 5 Hz. The expanded optical system allows for the precise measurement of tiny changes in sample length, with a resolution of 0.1% or less.

Additionally, a low-noise amplifier and a duplexer were introduced to improve the measurement of ultrasonic echoes, which have become weaker due to the miniaturization of samples. The new amplifier reduces noise intensity and achieves a high S/N ratio, while the duplexer increases the withstand input by over 100 times and eliminates video leakage noise.
