1. Identification and Characterization of CAMs: Using in vivo two-photon imaging, molecular, morphological, and electron microscopic analyses confirmed these cells as bona fide microglia. They are enriched on the vasculature, exhibit similar features to parenchymal microglia (PCMs), and interact through stable somata rather than transient processes.

2. Regulation of CAM Interactions: Purinergic P2RY12 signaling, activated by purines released from pannexin 1 (PANX1) channels, was found to regulate these interactions.

3. Functional Impact of Microglial Depletion: Eliminating microglia led to increased capillary diameter, cerebral blood flow (CBF), and impaired vasodilation, consistent with P2RY12 and PANX1 deficiencies, highlighting the importance of CAMs in maintaining neurovascular homeostasis.
