Использование сахаров при консервации биоматериалов. Первые попытки разработать технологию высушивания биоматериала были связаны с использованием трегалозы и других сахаров для сохранения жизнеспособности клеток. Были получены некоторые многообещающие результаты, такие как успешное использование лиофильно-высушенных в присутствии трегалозы мышиных сперматозоидов для искусственного оплодотворения и получения жизнеспособного потомства. Однако в большинстве случаев клетки, используемые в качестве доноров генетического материала, были нежизнеспособными. Другие исследователи получили противоречивые данные об использовании сахаров для сохранения биоматериалов. Сохранение живых клеток, тканей и органов в течение длительного времени является необходимым для их клинического использования, но существующие технологии криозаморозки имеют ряд недостатков и ограничений. Альтернативой может служить хранение биологического материала в обезвоженном виде при комнатной температуре, что может быть разработано на основе изучения механизмов криптобиоза беспозвоночных.
