Circular transition requires collaborative efforts between stakeholders to narrow, slow down, and close resource loops, reframing roles and considering new stakeholders, with producers and users becoming active "circular doers" and citizens playing a key role in co-productive processes, bringing together knowledge, skills, and resources to create spatial interventions, with citizen-led co-production based on the idea that citizens have valuable knowledge and capabilities to improve their environments. Citizen-led co-production has advantages like building community cohesion, optimizing resource use, and improving maintenance quality, but also drawbacks like increased time and resource requirements, complicated consensus, and power imbalances, with grassroots transition approaches arguing that large-scale change often begins locally with small citizen-led initiatives, and numerous initiatives around the world pointing toward circular futures, with enablers like collective intelligence, awareness and capacity building, and safe spaces to experiment, and barriers like labor and cost intensity, quality control of reclaimed materials, deviating timeframes, and limited knowledge and skills for circular construction. New roles are emerging, such as matchmakers, facilitators, translators, enablers, and activists, with architects and planners taking on new roles depending on their level of involvement, and a shift in stakeholder roles is necessary for a diversity of people to collaborate and work toward a circular built environment.
