Summary

Cladonia furcata has small scales at the base of podetia, forming a loosely tufted mat, brown-grey to olive green, with a smooth surface and net-like pattern, and branches dividing at a narrow angle with pointed tips. Chemistry: K- or K+ yellow, Pd+ rust-red. Similar species include Cladonia arbuscula, ciliata, portentosa, and rangiformis, distinguishable by chemistry and morphology. Found on acid heaths and soil in woods, throughout Britain and Ireland.
