The Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) is a knowledge-led platform on integrated land use, aiming to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and Paris Climate Agreement. The GLF takes a holistic approach to create sustainable landscapes, considering five themes: food and livelihood initiatives, landscape restoration, rights, finance, and measuring progress. A regional conference was held in Accra, Ghana, to consult with countries and stakeholders on progress toward achieving restoration goals, feature successful community-led restoration initiatives, and consider forest landscape restoration initiatives. The conference aimed to coordinate and increase international, national, and private support for forest landscape restoration. Landscape restoration is defined as a planned process to regain ecological integrity and enhance human well-being in deforested or degraded landscapes. The GLF emphasizes the importance of linking restoration efforts to improving the lives and livelihoods of people, especially in the Global South. Challenges to implementing restoration initiatives include poor communication between sectors, asymmetrically distributed information, and fragmented supply chains. Successful restoration initiatives require institutional reforms, capacity building, fair payments for environmental services, and patient capital. The conference discussed potential areas, including sharing insights from restoration planning and lessons from successful collaboration between farmers and the private sector.
