Summary

Researchers developed a novel multiplex immunoassay for quantifying IgG against group B Streptococcus capsular polysaccharides in human sera, which could aid in vaccine development. The assay uses Luminex technology and can simultaneously determine CPS-specific IgG antibodies against GBS Ia, Ib, II, III, and V. Two assays were developed: Biotin-CPS MIA and Sandwich MIA, with the Biotin-CPS MIA showing higher sensitivity and lower complexity. This tool could be valuable for precise quantification of human IgGs directed to the main GBS CPSs and assist in vaccine development. Additionally, a study analyzed the complex role of Streptococcus species in respiratory tract infections associated with cystic fibrosis, finding that some oral streptococci can enhance the production of P. aeruginosa virulence factors, and pathogenic streptococci can be found in the airways of patients with CF, associated with exacerbation of the process.
