Summary

The Australian Solar Thermal Research Institute (ASTRI) is developing a 700kWth high-temperature sodium receiver for a concentrating solar power (CSP) system with a supercritical CO2 Brayton cycle. The receiver design features a concave-tube-bank-in-cavity concept with 10 tube banks, each consisting of 7 seam welded tubes. The design aims to demonstrate safe and efficient operation, with a target receiver efficiency of over 86%. The receiver will be installed and tested on Solar Field 2 at the CSIRO Energy Centre in Newcastle, Australia.
