Summary

The Kanibongan rubber planting project in Pitas, Sabah, has improved the average monthly income of smallholders by 30% since its implementation. The main factors driving smallholder participation in the project are self-motivation, subsidy incentives, poverty level, good rubber prices, and family encouragement. However, the main problems faced by smallholders are unstable rubber prices and theft of latex. The project is considered successful in reducing poverty among smallholders, with 195 respondents from five villages participating in the study.
