This study explores the use of manganese/aluminium-layered double hydroxide (MnAl LDH) as an effective adsorbent for removing methyl orange (MO) dye from water. Textile production generates significant amounts of dyed wastewater, posing environmental and health risks. MnAl LDH, with its unique lamellar structure, exhibits high anion adsorption and exchange capabilities, making it a promising candidate for dye removal.

Synthesized via the co-precipitation method, MnAl was characterized using powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES), Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Sulphur (CHNS) elemental analysis, and Accelerated Surface Area and Porosity Analyzer (ASAP).

Adsorption experiments were conducted at varying contact times and dosages to evaluate MnAl's performance. Kinetic models (pseudo-first and pseudo-second order) and isotherm models (Langmuir and Freundlich) were applied to understand the adsorption process. Results showed that MnAl LDH best fits the pseudo-second order and Langmuir isotherm models, indicating efficient MO removal from water.
