Summary

Five holes drilled during Legs 122 and 123 of the Ocean Drilling Program yielded Lower Cretaceous belemnite guards, including species such as Belemnopsis cf. jonkeri, Belemnopsis ex gr. moluccana, Hibolithes sp., and Duvalia cf. sakalava. The Berriasian-Lower Valanginian Belemnopsis assemblages show close affinities to the Belemnopsis moluccana group from Indonesia, indicating a Neocomian Indo-Pacific Subprovince. The Duvalia found in Hole 766A suggests faunal links to Madagascar for the Hauterivian. The belemnite faunas have significant paleobiogeographic implications.
