Summary

This study investigates the influence of stratospheric geoengineering on the global stratospheric ozone layer, aiming to counterbalance global warming. Estimated yearly injections of 1-10 Mt sulphur equivalents are needed, and sensitivity studies quantify the effects on the ozone layer. Results show a complex linkage between processes, with chemical effects potentially increasing ozone by up to 5% over subtropes, but decreasing it by up to 10% over polar areas and mid-latitudes. However, significant uncertainties make reliable estimation of geoengineering's implications on the ozone layer challenging.
