Summary

The Ablowitz-Musslimani nonlinear Schrödinger equation is studied, which is a nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger equation with parity-time (PT) symmetric self-induced potential. Variational methods are used to examine the dynamics of moving solitons, including collisions. Numerical results show that a single moving soliton can pass the origin and decay or be trapped at the origin and blow up at a finite time. The variational approximation can capture the dynamics well, including the finite-time blow up. In the case of two solitons moving towards each other, mass transfer between them can occur, in addition to wave scattering. Defocussing nonlinearity can support bright solitons.
